We had planned to go to the “Please Touch Me” museum, but since Kai had slept until 2 and the museum was closing at 4, we went with the flow and rerouted to see Michael, Melanie, and Sydney. It turned out that it was a private amusement park just for us with endless fun and a new friend with cousin Sydney (although some competitive tensions emerging). All topped off with some great home cooked food (by mom of course).
Competing with the Deutschland playground
Kai is growing up. The last time we were here, Kai could barely play (see here), but today Kai was king of the playground. And he put his dutiful serf papa to work.
St. Martin’s Day
St. Martin’s Day is a European harvest festival celebrated with lanterns and popular with children, at least before they were invaded by Halloween. Kai had a good time, and we dressed him in his new clothes from Beijing.
Little Frankie
Kai will make a great crooner. He has the music in his genes.
Kai 2nd Birthday Party Preview
Happy 2nd Birthday Kai
It’s hard to believe its been 2 years. I can’t even remember life before you came. You completed us, and every day you grow and amaze us. Looking forward to many, many more celebrations.
Spaceman Kai
First Cut
Just before his second birthday, we decided to it was time to get Kai’s haircut. Chika was going in for an appointment and our local stylists offers free cuts to client’s kids. Kai was a smooth customer, appropriately browsing the artwork in the waiting area, calmly sitting for his session, and even offering a few poses to capture the results at the end.
While I like the fresh look, I realize more clearly why Chika wants me to keep my hair longer: clean does not always equate with character.
GÄRTEN DER WELT (or Gardens of the World)
Kai is my first mate when it comes to exploring new territories here in Berlin, and today we decided to head to the unchartered waters well beyond the central ring. I had read about the Gardens of the World in a local Berlin tourist guide, but never managed to build up the energy to head out. But somehow, I was inspired this morning, packed the picnic lunch, and set out for an adventure. And a good journey it was. Kai had a great time in the gardens, and miraculously was able to sit through a picnic lunch (at least until it was time to clean up and I had to chase him back a few times). We definitely plan to visit again.
